Western Kenosha News - March 2005:"Lightning" Strikes Kenosha County
Our League was born to create an environment for committed athletes and parents to participate in elevated competitive sporting events. The vision created by two individuals:
The Lightning organization had 3 teams, ages 10, 12, & 14, consisting of 40+ children.
At that time we also developed a Mission Statement and Objectives:
The purpose of this Organization shall be for the organization, development and promotion of youth athletics. Our objective is to elevate the level of play to the highest caliber possible. Within a competitive environment, athletes shall learn the life skills of fair play, good sportsmanship, and respect. By teaching and reinforcing fundamentals, conditioning, commitment, teamwork, perseverance, and positive attitude, Lightning Youth Athletics will provide the athletes the necessary tools to be champions in their sport and in life.
We then grew in 2007
The organization added lots of support from adding more parents and increasing the local business participation. We also became a not for profit organization, and won 3 tournaments in 3 age groups.
A Vision Statement was developed:
- To achieve our mission, Lightning Youth Athletics would like to provide a program that is beneficial to the communities in Southeastern Wisconsin/Northern Illinois and become the leading organization in the development of competitive youth athletics.
- Added a basketball program- bringing another 40 female athletes seeking competitive training in basketball.
- This year softball participation has doubled with six teams serving 66 athletes across four age groups that want a competitive environment for their personal self growth.
Where will "Lightning" Strike Next?
- Securing funds to develop facilities for the use of expanding Lightning Youth Athletics
- Locating sites for this expansion.
- Developing relationships in support of the efforts of LYA- via our local, state and federal government.
- Use our Not for Profit status to seek grants in support of our Mission.
- Acquire or secure long-term commitments for land and or facilities via our grants, fund raisings and support from the Southeastern Wisconsin-Northern Illinois Businesses.
